First Day in the Not So Windy City!

For the record, I can't believe I'm here. Like literally, physically, mentally here.

Morning was pretty good but a bit bumpy--helped mama saw with groceries, deposited money into my savings acct at good ol' "First Niagara", and I was off to LGA with just barely enough time to make my flight. But I didn't since my overweight checked bag required at least an hour prior to the flight and I made it only just on time.

So I got on standby for a flight an hour later which was only 75% full thank god, sat next to an asian businessman who looked far too interested in his blackberries--yes, blackberries--as though he was watching porn on them (but really who would do that?)
The flight itself was fairly quick and I enjoyed myself a nice cranapple juice cocktail and listened to more of Tina Fey's audiobook--just an hour more! Chapter 56 so far is my fave since she talks about Donald Glover haha

Landed about half an hour early, chilled out until I spotted my roommate in his Honda Accord. This summer may not be as crazay as Santa Fe since this guy is turning out to be nice and normal and I'm not sure whether I should be relieved or kind of disappointed that this may be the most boring travelive (travel + living) blog I write, but we will see!

Roommate profile!
Soe Moe, friend of my aunt's sister-in-law's sister...so...family friend
First thing he tells me about Chicago is that the Burmese community is pretty small and very tight knit to the point where it becomes a bit too overwhelming--not a problem for me obviously lol
Occupation as a structural engineer
In a relationship but doesnt say with who (man its gonna be annoying to play dumb at times, its like the reverse of Three's Company only its just two of us and there's really no Mr. Furley who's gonna kick him out)
Lives on the 30th floor of what seems like a fairly new condo

He parks on the 4th floor, we get in the elevator and my ears popped
My ears didnt pop at all during the flight so this is gonna take some time getting used to
Im not a fan of the concrete ceiling but goddamn the window wall is my favorite part of chicago already
I'm living it up for sure, thank god my fear of heights doesnt extend to this
There's something pretty fantastic about being able to give directions by simply gesturing out the window

So apparently I live 15 minutes down the road from the Art Institute (via bus right downstairs)
A walk away from Chinatown and the red line
Three blocks away from Lake Michigan
On top of a grocery

Yeah I'm gonna do just fine here, got my AC when outside is as still, humid, and stuffy as August in New York (oh boy so much sweat!)
I settled into my room and my comfy futon, fired up Wi-Fi, looked up bank of america locations and potential lunch places for tomorrow
Got lots to do but already after living abroad and traveling I know the shpiel--already got a shopping list, places to explore near my area of South Loop, Chicago

Got my $86 monthly card, bought from Walgreens
My dinner being take out from Chinatown which looks like a small, cleaner, not as busy version of NY's Chinatown--down to the museum about Chinese Americans

I'm absolutely in love with this view its insane, from the flask shaped buildings down to the little lights of the cars going up and down the streets...
ah what a life
